THE BEGINNING OF THE BUSINESS

When it comes to telling the story of the Grand Island hearing Aid Center it’s important to go back to its founder, Laverne Almquist, and the influence she has had on the success of the 40 -year business.

Laverne Almquist, aunt to Roxann Ellison, started the business in 1971. Almquist held license No. 1 in Nebraska for hearing instrument dispensers and fitters. Also, Almquist was instrumental in organizing and founding the then Nebraska Hearing Aid Dispensers and Fitters Organization, which is now the Nebraska Hearing Society.

Almquist was 57 when she opened the Grand Island Hearing Aid Center on Second Street in downtown Grand Island. She was a respected businesswoman and worked until her death at age 71.
